YOUR PRIVACY MATTERS
Privacy policy
How LiveScores South Africa collects, uses and protects personal information.
This privacy policy explains how LiveScores South Africa (“LiveScores”, “we”, “us” or “our”) processes personal information when you use www.livescores.co.za, create an account, contact us or use score alerts. We aim to process personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”).
1. Information we process
Account information. When you create an account, we process your display name, email address and a securely hashed password. We do not store your password in readable form.
Preferences and notifications. If you use My Sports, we process your selected sports, teams or competitions, and your browser and email-notification preferences. Browser permission is managed by your browser; you can revoke it in your device or browser settings.
Messages and support. If you contact us, we process the name, email address, subject and message you choose to send, along with information needed to resolve the request.
Technical and usage information. Our hosting, security and analytics tools may process IP address, browser and device information, pages viewed, referring page, approximate location, cookies, timestamps and diagnostic logs. We use Google Analytics 4 for aggregated site measurement and do not intentionally send names, email addresses, passwords or other direct identifiers to Google Analytics.
2. Why we process information
We process the minimum information reasonably needed to operate the site, provide accounts and alerts you request, maintain security, respond to enquiries, measure and improve the service, investigate misuse, comply with legal duties and protect our rights. Depending on the context, our basis for processing may be your consent, performance of the service you requested, our legitimate interests in running a secure and useful sports-information service, or a legal obligation.
You can opt out of optional email notifications through My Sports. We do not sell personal information or use it to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you.
3. Cookies, analytics and similar technology
We use essential cookies for security and signed-in sessions. We also use limited measurement cookies and similar technology, including Google Analytics 4, to understand which pages and sports coverage are useful. You can manage cookies through your browser settings and can use Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking some cookies may affect sign-in or personalised features.
4. When information may be shared
We may share information only where necessary with service providers that help us host the site, send email, provide analytics, secure the service or support its operation. Those providers may process information on our instructions or under their own applicable terms. We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect people or the service, or in connection with a lawful business transaction.
Some providers, including analytics or cloud-service providers, may process information outside South Africa. Where this occurs, we seek appropriate contractual, technical or organisational safeguards consistent with POPIA.
5. Retention and security
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including account administration, support, security, legal compliance and dispute resolution. Account information is retained while your account remains active; notification preferences are retained until changed, unsubscribed or the account is deleted. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect information, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
6. Your POPIA rights and choices
Subject to POPIA and applicable law, you may ask us to confirm whether we hold your personal information, request access or correction, object to certain processing, withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, request deletion where appropriate, or make a complaint. To protect your account, we may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
Send a privacy or POPIA request through our contact page with the subject “Privacy / POPIA request”. If you believe your information has been processed unlawfully, you may also complain to the Information Regulator.
7. Children
LiveScores is a general sports-information service and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate authority. If you believe a child has provided personal information without the necessary permission, please contact us so that we can review the request.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our service, providers or legal obligations change. Material changes will be posted here with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the site after a change is subject to the updated policy where permitted by law.
9. Contact
LiveScores South Africa is the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy. For privacy questions or a POPIA request, use our contact page. Please also read our Terms and Conditions.
This policy is an operational privacy notice, not a substitute for tailored legal advice. We recommend that it be reviewed by a South African legal professional as the business, data flows or advertising arrangements evolve.
